the new project

This project was accidentally begun after I did a few quick oil paintings on gessoed watercolor paper and realised that together they evoked the feeling of an untold story. From that point, I decided to create a series of paintings to see what sort of story would emerge. I was obviously aware of the previous paintings I had made, and as the series continued, had a vague idea of the themes that would be present in the finished story. But, as much as possible, I put these things out of my head. I tried to paint just as I had painted the first two, finding each picture within an abstract mess of color on the paper, and then bringing it all out. Many of the characters appear in more than one painting, often this was accidental, and always they emerged, along with all the other elements, strictly from what was already on the paper. Once finished it took quite a while and a few different story arcs to finally settle on one that not only could clearly encompass the entire series, yet also felt true to the characters in the paintings. Currently I have been animating this series with Flash to create a 'primitive' type of computer animation a bit like the clunky beginnings of regular stop motion animation. I will be posting excerpts of the animations on this website as they become presentable. CLICK ON THUMBNAILS TO ENLARGE.

The Paintings are in order and the storyline is written. Check back for excerpts from the animations.
